Private/Semi-private oil painting - work at your own level

Studio Class... work in oils or any other medium you like.. paint or draw... beginners welcome (will resume July 28)
Lessons at my studio in Newburgh - ongoing class meets on Thursday and Saturday mornings 9:30-12. Students may start at any time and may drop in and out no commitment required. Work at your own level - from absolute beginners to advanced. Instruction is personalized. Please give me 24 hour notice by phone or email before attending.
Class is $30 per 2.5 hour session - prepaid $100 for four classes.

Figure Drawing Class
This workshop is offered in blocks of 3 classes. Students will draw from a  live model - female and male. Starting with shorter poses and gradually lengthening poses to enable students to explore the figure as they learn it. Discussions of anatomy and proportion will aid understanding of the figure. This class is appropriate for any level student, from the beginner who wants to move beyond the stick figure to the seasoned artist who understands that one’s study of the figure never ends.

Class runs with a minimum of 4 students and is limited to 7. Offered in sessions of three classes. Session rate applies to monthly sessions purchased at start of session. Classes missed can not be carried over or credited to another session. *Please reserve in advance as possible so that I may confirm the hiring of the models.

$110 per full session or $45 per individual class

Figure 
Workshop - Long Pose
This 3 hour long class offers students the chance to work with a long pose. Models will be nude or semi draped. Students will have time to work on finished drawings or paint if they choose. This class is appropriate for the intermediate or advanced level student or for seasoned artists who seek the artistic camaraderie of the group .  Models will alternate between male and female.
Class runs with a minimum of 3 students and is limited to 7. *Please reserve in advance as possible so that I may confirm the hiring of the models.
$45 per individual class (prices include model fee)
Sundays 9:30-12:30.

Private lessons

Individual instruction $25 per hour. 2.5 hour sessions recommended. Instruction in your space includes travel time in fee.

Basic Oil Painting
Learn the basic elements of oil painting like the properties of oil paint, fundamentals such as materials, color and composition. This course will be offered in monthly series of three weeks each. Each session will begin with a demonstration on varying topics. This class is appropriate for absolute beginners and for students with some experience.  NOTE: Advanced students may sign up for this time slot with the arrangement of independent study projects.  All students will learn from hands on practice and personalized critiques.

Drawing and Painting the Head
Students will draw and/or paint the human head. The emphasis will be on creating lifelike heads and faces, with attention to anatomy. For students who wish to focus on likeness (i.e. portraiture), this will be covered also. We will begin the evening by working with drawing in either pencil or charcoal, students may then proceed to the medium of their choice. Class work will be from prepared materials and live model sessions. This class is appropriate for any level student from the beginner who is looking for an accessible way to approach the figure or the more advanced student looking to hone their understanding of this expressive part of the body.

Basic Drawing
This class will focus on the fundamentals of drawing. Whether as the basis of painting or drawing as an art form of its own any artist knows that one's drawing skills are never beyond improvement. Class assignments will be from direct observation. Students will learn how to gain a critical eye on their own work allowing them to take their skill to the next level. This class is appropriate for absolute or rusty beginners

Drawing Intermediate/Advanced
For students who have completed the “Basic” drawing course or who already have some experience. In this class exercises we will explore diverse and challenging exercises with a some attention placed on finishing drawings. Basic principles of drawing will be reviewed.

Color - Learned Intuition
Unlock what you already know about this intuitive facet of painting. This class focuses on the expressive nature of color. We will utilize practical applied experimentation of color not academic theory. Become more familiar with the nuances of color while you explore this powerful component of painting. Students will be asked to challenge their perception and application of color as it relates to emotion, mood and psychology. Students will work on a variety of studio exercises. This class is appropriate for painters of all mediums and levels.

Thursday Evening Oil Painting
For painters who are looking to improve their basic understanding of the medium. Beginners to advanced. Class work will focus predominantly from the still life, though other exercises may be included such as interiors, figures, landscapes and art historical references. Students will learn to harness components of painting such as composition, color, value, paint quality, brush work, etc. Each student will be challenged at their own level. Advanced students are welcome to suggest independent projects. Oils are the instructors main medium but students are welcome to use other materials in the classroom if they choose.
