at my Newburgh Studio Private/Semi-private oil painting - work at your own level Semi-private lessons at my studio in Newburgh - class meets on a Saturday morning 9:30-12. Unstructured so that students may drop in any time. Work at your own level - from absolute begginners to advanced. Instruction is personalized. Ongoing weekends. Please give me 24 hour notice by phone or email before attending. Class is $30 per 2.5 hour session (every fifth class is free). Private lessons or small private classes in oil painting and drawing can also be arranged. William Noonan will open his lovely garden while the roses and foxglove are blooming. Students may work in any medium they choose. Sat. & Sun. 9:30-4:30pm June 12 & 13, $130 ($70 one day) Basic Drawing This class will focus on the fundamentals of drawing. Whether as the basis of painting or drawing as an art form of its own any artist knows that one's drawing skills are never beyond improvement. Class assignments will be from direct observation. Students will learn how to gain a critical eye on their own work allowing them to take their skill to the next level. This class is appropriate for all levels. Monday & Thursday 6:30-8:30pm June 14, 17, 21 $100 Oil Painting Materials Workshop This 3 hour workshop will walk students through the materials used for oil painting. Topics such as pigments, paint brands, the use of solvents, brushes, and painting grounds will be discussed. Students will be shown how to stretch a canvas. Each participant will make a canvas panel and prepare paper, Masonite and un-stretched canvas for painting. Students will go home with these projects and the tools to create more. Sat. 2-5pm June 19 $35 (plus $10 materials fee) Basic Oil Painting Learn the basic elements of oil painting like the properties of oil paint, fundamentals such as materials, color and composition. This course will be offered in monthly series of three weeks each. Each session will begin with a demonstration on varying topics. This class is appropriate for absolute beginners and for students with some experience. NOTE: Advanced students may sign up for this time slot with the arrangement of independent study projects. All students will learn from hands on practice and personalized critiques. Sat. 2-4:30pm July 17, 24, 31 $100 Color - Learned Intuition Unlock what you already know about this intuitive facet of painting. This class focuses on the expressive nature of color. We will utilize practical applied experimentation of color rather than academic theory. Become more familiar with the nuances of color while you explore this powerful component of painting. Students will be asked to challenge their perception and application of color as it relates to emotion, mood and psychology. This class is appropriate for painters of all mediums and levels, Demonstrations will be in oil but color theories apply to all color mediums. Students will work on a variety of studio exercises. Mondays 6:30-9pm July 12, 19, 26 Aug 2 $130 Shoulders of Giants - Art History - The Impressionists an Artist’s Study Group Studying from master paintings is a time honored tradition of learning. From Raphael to Renoir... these guys have done the heavy lifting - you can learn from their achievements. This class will devote time to looking at masterpieces of Western art history then students will spend time creating studies from them. Learning by not simply copying but extracting from the original an understanding of the elements of color, design and proportion. This class is a fun as it is rewarding and is appropriate for any level artist. Sunday 1-5pm July 25 $40 Basic Oil Painting Learn the basic elements of oil painting like the properties of oil paint, fundamentals such as materials, color and composition. Beach costumed models will be set up outside in a summer tableau. Students may work in any medium. Students will be encouraged to do a morning painting and an afternoon painting to take advantage of both morning and afternoon light. Those who desire it will be assisted with issues or drawing and painting the figure. Bring a bagged lunch. Hone your skills in this course which will cover the basics of drawing. Wether you have moved past stick figures or not this course will help you advance your skills. By going back to the beginning you will learn how to see more critically and how to interpret it on the page. We will explore the art of drawing and how it relates to painting. This Class will be offered in two 4 week sessions. Students will work at their own pace with the emphasis on personal advancement.
